On Saturday, June 21st, the Bill Reid Gallery of Northwest Coast Art
celebrates National Aboriginal Day with a performance by the Git Hayetsk
Dancers at 11:00 am, followed by designer Denise Brillon presenting her
Artifaax fashion line It's About Honour, at 2:00 pm.

Admission to the Gallery will be by donation, Saturday, June 21.

The Git Hayetsk Dancers are based out of Vancouver and have been
performing as a group since 1999. Members of Git Hayetsk come from many
different nations including Tsimshian, Nisga'a, Gitxsan, Haida, Tlingit
and Haisla. The name Git Hayetsk means people of the copper shield in
the Tsimshian language. They have danced locally and internationally,
travelling to places as far away as Germany and Japan. The group uses
only traditional hand-made regalia, masks, and drums for their
performances that include both ancient and contemporary dances.

Denise Brillon is a Cree French fashion designer and her new line of
clothing is reflective of her traditional roots. She has achieved
national and international recognition from showing her Indian Summer
line at L'Oreal Fashion Week in Toronto. It's About Honour is part of
the Artifaax line, one of Brillion's permanent collections. Her limited
edition t-shirts will beavailable for sale June 21st, in the Kil Sli
Native Gift Shop at the Gallery. Brillion is currently teaching
self-appreciation for a program called C.H.A.R.M (Creating Healthy
Aboriginal Role Models). Some of the program participants will be
modeling Brillon's clothing line on Saturday.
