This position will facilitate and coordinate a variety of activities and
events to ready the local community for the 2010 Games and ensure a
legacy of an enriched arts, culture and heritage sector to last into the
future. Through a variety of activities and working collaboratively with
other City staff and the community, the Manager, Community Cultural
Development will implement the Council approved 2010 Arts & Culture Plan.
DUTIES:
* Develop activities leading up to and during 2010 specifically
designed to showcase Richmond's diverse culture and rich history
* Initiate and cultivate strategic community and business
relationships to encourage growth of existing events and foster
the establishment of new arts and culture programs and festivals
* Engage artists, the arts, culture and heritage community,
businesses and the general public in a variety of activities and
facilitate participation of the Richmond arts community in
celebrations and ceremonies
* Raise the profile of Richmond's arts, culture and heritage through
the development of opportunities for local artists to contribute
to opening and closing ceremony events
* Work with partners to coordinate programming, marketing and
fundraising initiatives in order to build a vibrant sustainable
cultural sector
* Raise significant funds through grants, partnerships and
sponsorships to expand on existing and create new cultural
festivals and events
* Provide leadership to contractors, volunteers, staff and community
partners
* Facilitate and assist the local arts community in their
preparations for involvement in the Celebration site programming
The successful candidate will be self-motivated, well organized, highly
articulate and able to interact with the cultural community, business
community and all levels of the organization. They will need to be
persuasive and influential to foster and maintain relationships, which
promote collaboration amongst a variety of partners.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum qualifications include a Bachelor's degree (Master's degree
preferred) in Arts Administration, Art History, Fine Arts, or Cultural
Planning, supplemented by course studies in Business Administration,
Event Management, Project Management, or Communications. Your experience
will include working in arts administration or cultural planning within
a municipal government or not-for-profit arts administrative setting; a
variety of fundraising experiences including grants and sponsorships and
demonstrated experience in planning, facilitating and implementing large
events and festivals; highly developed organization, conflict resolution
and project management skills; and working in a politically sensitive
environment.
*This full-time position is based on a 35 hour work week and as part of
our work/life balance initiative, this position works a compressed work
