Exhibit Coordinator
Competition #2008-I-26
Regular Part-Time – 21 Hours Per Week
$23.21 – $27.28 Per Hour

This is professional exhibit work involving the development of exhibits 
from the initial ideas, through scheduling, conceptual design, research, 
artifact selection, text writing, graphic design, final design, 
construction, installation and all related records documenting the 
exhibit process. The incumbent recruits, trains and supervises 
volunteers to assist with exhibit tear down, exhibit preparation and 
installation. Each exhibit is developed in partnership with other 
organizations, community groups or individuals and the incumbent is 
responsible to develop and maintain those relationships. The incumbent 
also develops and installs small exhibits in City Hall and other venues 
as required. The incumbent arranges, conducts and transcribes oral 
history interviews with community pioneers and other people instrumental 
to the history and development of Richmond. This includes hiring and 
supervising technical contract staff. The incumbent is responsible for 
the coordination of 22-26 local heritage groups who participate in the 
annual Heritage Week Exhibition. The incumbent is also responsible for 
any research required by Museum & Heritage Services concerning City 
owned heritage sites and/or other heritage properties or matters of 
concern/interest to the City.

Bachelor’s degree in related discipline including or supplemented by 
courses in museum studies and/or design plus 1-2 years’ exhibit 
experience. Considerable knowledge in care and handling of artifacts, 
artifact based design and graphic design are required. Considerable 
knowledge in conducting and transcribing oral histories. Considerable 
knowledge and demonstrated ability in primary and secondary historic 
research. Ability to work with and manage volunteers, community groups 
and partners. Ability to maintain a records management system, including 
but not limited to photo documentation. Knowledge of museum practises 
and principles. Knowledge of Canadian, British Columbian and Richmond 
history preferred. Ability to successfully pass a criminal record check. 
It is anticipated that the hours will be Tues/Wed/Thurs from 9:00 – 17:00.
