Here's what's up and coming at your Kelowna Museums this June! >From a 
wine education seminar to a book launch and a celebration of Aboriginal 
culture, June is heating up!

 

 

The BC Wine Museum & VQA Wine Shop is pleased to present *Pass the 
Winemaker on Thursday, June 5^th at 7:00pm.* Get to know some of BC's 
talented winemakers as they each spend 15-20 minutes at your table, 
pouring and chatting about their wines. The guest winemakers will be 
Brad Cooper from Township 7 and Bernhard Schirrmeister from Lang 
Vineyards and Soaring Eagle Estate Winery. Your host for the evening is 
Julianna Hayes, a celebrated wine writer and editor who always puts a 
fun and fresh spin on wine appreciation. Tickets for Pass the Winemaker 
are $35 and only $30 for Kelowna Museums members. Call 868-0441 to

The Okanagan Heritage Museum is proud to host the launch of a new book 
that takes a look at the unsung heroes of the Kettle Valley Railway. 
*/Myra's Men- Building the Kettle Valley Railway /**by local author 
Maurice Williams will be the topic of discussion on Wednesday, June 
18^th at 7:00pm. *Williams is Associate Professor of History at 
UBC-Okanagan and has hiked, biked, and admired the wonders of Myra 
Canyon and the Kettle Valley Railway for years. The book launch is part 
of the lead-up to the Grand Re-opening of the Myra Canyon Trestles on 
June 22^nd . Admission is by donation. For more information on the book 
launch please call 763-2417.

 

S*aturday, June 21^st is National Aboriginal Day, and to celebrate the 
Okanagan Heritage Museum is opening its pit house to the public, 
11:00am-2:00pm*. The pit house, or kekuli, is the traditional First 
Nations winter dwelling of the Okanagan and Central Interior. The pit 
house was built inside the Museum in the 1970s by Secwepemc elder Mary 
Thomas and her family. The knowledge was passed down by her mother who 
remembered building and living in a pit house as a child. Join the 
Okanagan Heritage Museum on Aboriginal Day for interpretation and 
exploration of the pit house. Call 763-2417 for more information.
