HERITAGE FAIR COORDINATOR 2009
The North Vancouver Museum & Archives seeks a creative, energetic and organized individual to work with a community-based volunteer Heritage Fair Committee and with the Museum’s Education staff, to fundraise for and coordinate a celebratory public Heritage Fair program. A community sponsorship program will be administered and educational and entertaining events for the entire community will be presented while showcasing students’ projects at the 2009 Sea to Sky Regional Heritage Fair.
This program will highlight history projects produced by students in Grades 4 to 9, from North Vancouver, West Vancouver and Howe Sound districts. As part of their classroom studies, students will create and present projects that demonstrate original research. In addition, community groups and history specialists will conduct workshops and demonstrations for the students and the general public.
The Sea to Sky Regional Heritage Fair is part of a national program sponsored by the Historica Foundation which is dedicated to increasing understanding of Canada’s history. Annually over 300,000 students, from across the community participate. See www.historica for more information.
Duties include assisting with:
Promoting the Fair program to teachers and principals throughout the Sea to Sky Region.
Creating a day of entertaining and educational activities for students.
Promoting the Sea to Sky Regional Heritage Fair day to the general public.
Liaising with entertainers, sponsors and the media.
Coordinating a Regional Heritage Fair sponsorship program.
Administering the student awards program.
Organizing Heritage Fair committee meetings and volunteer support.
Writing regular press releases, flyers, and advertisements.
Researching and submitting program reports to funding agencies.
Preferred Skills and Knowledge:
demonstrated ability to encourage community involvement through the delivery of public events
demonstrated ability to encourage community involvement through donations, services and funding
demonstrated ability to write accurately and creatively
demonstrated ability to work with volunteers
an interest in history and children’s’ educational programs
basic computer skills with proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and Internet Explorer
strong organizational and interpersonal skills
demonstrated experience in providing excellent customer service
current and valid B.C. Driver’s License
Work Period: Week of January 12th for 20 weeks, to end May 29th, 2009
Work Week: 21 hours per week (three weekdays)
Salary: $20.41 per hour (PG 15-1)
plus 10% in lieu of statutory holidays and vacation pay
Benefits: A limited range of pro-rated benefits are available after qualifying periods
