My apologies for any cross-postings!
Good morning! We are hard at work, preparing our very first exhibit with a
goal to travel nationally. This exhibit, The Good People: Stories from the
Anishnabek, will share the substance of Anishnabek culture, heritage,
beliefs and identity told from the Anishnabek perspective by Anishnabek
Elders. Most examinations of Aboriginal history have been told by cultural
outsiders, and have examined only the form of Anishnabek life, without ever
truly touching the foundation of what it means to be Anishnabek. Using a
blend of technology and artistry, this exhibit will facilitate an Anishnabek
presentation of themselves, both to Aboriginals (to inspire them by a public
display of their proud heritage) and to non-Aboriginals (to educate them on
this rich culture). Curriculum-relevant educational programming will be
provided as part of the exhibit package.
At this point in our project development, we are asking for a letter of
interest to submit to Heritage Canada. The exhibit would be 1000-1500 square
feet (maximum). The rental cost is still under development, but we expect it
will be around the $5000 mark for an 8 week rental. We expect the exhibit
will be ready to borrow in March 2011.
We aren't looking for a commitment to borrow the exhibit yet, but we hoped
that you might provide a letter of interest for the project, that if the
proposal is accepted and funded by the Museum Assistance Program's
Aboriginal Heritage section, your facility might be interested in borrowing
it. If you would please send an e-mail or a fax (to (519) 376-4654), we
would really appreciate your support!
