tunities for professionals and volunteers working in the museum and heritag=
e field.

MUSEUM PRINCIPLES AND PRACTICES II: Programming, Exhibitions and Management
HA 486B (1.5 units); distance course offering
Exhibitions and programs are the primary means by which museums share their=
collections. This course follows from HA 486A Museum Principles and Practi=
ces: Creating and Preserving Knowledge to focus on the ways in which museum=
s present a diverse range of exhibitions, programs and other outreach activ=
ities to meet their educational mandate, and then goes on to explore the go=
vernance and management structures needed to ensure that the museum meets i=
ts mission and goals.
Course materials provide practicing and future museum professionals with an=
overview of current issues in programming, exhibitions, governance and man=
agement, and enhances your ability to:
* appreciate the past, present and future contexts and frameworks f=
or museum practice
* engage in current debates around the role and purpose of museums =
in service to society and communities
* understand the functional areas of museum work, their processes a=
nd their interrelationship within the museum as a complex organization

HERITAGE RESOURCE CONSERVATION
HA 487B (1.5 units); distance course offering
The care and treatment of heritage resources requires specialized knowledge=
and skills that are applied within the context of clear management goals, =
values and strategies, as discussed in HA 487A. This course provides a deta=
iled survey of the philosophical, ethical and practical aspects of physical=
conservation of heritage resources and strengthens your capacity to recomm=
end appropriate approaches to conservation treatments. Please note that, gi=
ven the highly technical nature of many conservation treatments, this cours=
e focuses on planning for conservation treatments rather than on specific i=
nterventions that require the skills of trained conservators.
