EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY
EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR: TEXTILE MUSEUM OF CANADA
Toronto, Ontario
The Textile Museum of Canada invites applications for the position of
EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR.
Founded in 1975, it is the only museum in Canada (and one of eight
around the world) exclusively devoted to the collection, exhibition, and
documentation of textiles from around the world. In addition to the 15
000 square feet of gallery space, the museum houses a specialized
reference library, conservation laboratory, gift and book shop,
collection management/research area, auditorium for meetings and
seminars, and an education gallery providing a hands on, interactive
experience.
The Executive Director is responsible for the overall management of the
museum's operations, including the implementation of the strategic plan
in partnership with the Board of Directors, the recruitment and
supervision of personnel, and income generation through membership
development, grantsmanship, and fundraising. The Director is charged
with ensuring the high quality of the museum's exhibitions, collections,
and programming, and the maintenance of effective working relationships
with all stakeholders including the textile/museum community, staff, the
board and volunteers, corporate and individual donors, government
funders, and the public.
The Textile Museum receives only 30% of its operating revenue from
government and relies on earned revenue from memberships, admissions,
tours, and its shop; contributed revenue from individual, foundation,
and corporate supporters; and the dedication of its 120 volunteers. The
museum has an annual budget of $1 000 000 and a highly dedicated
professional staff of 12.
The successful candidate will have senior experience in arts and
cultural management; excellent interpersonal, strategic, analytical, and
communication skills. Experience in fundraising, marketing, and
government relations; a track record of responsible fiscal management;
and familiarity with capital/endowment campaigns would be highly
desirable. It is important that the Executive Director can create a
structure and atmosphere in which all partners in the organization may
contribute according to their greatest potential.
Salary commensurate with experience. Please send resume and cover
