Find something new at the Discovery Centre's River Celebrations - December
on the River
New Westminster, BC - On Saturday December 12 between 10:30am and 3:30pm,
the Fraser River Discovery Centre is celebrating the season with a special
program entitled River Celebrations - December on the River. Families are
invited to discover the roots of familiar traditions and to create a handful
of beautiful decorations to take home.
The day's activities are centered on a few of the vibrant cultural
traditions found in the Fraser River Basin. Kathleen Bertrand, Communication
Coordinator says, "For thousands of years, groups of people have chosen to
settle along the river because of the many resources the river has to offer.
Many of these cultural groups had important winter celebrations." By
participating in some of these winter traditions, the Discovery Centre is
hoping visitors might find a new holiday ritual. Among other activities,
visitors will be invited to prepare a shoe for presents, decorate a boat and
prepare to make a maple syrup pie.
As we head into a busy Christmas season, take some time out on Saturday
December 12 to celebrate the season of winter feasts and festivals with
crafts and treats at the Fraser River Discovery Centre!
The Fraser River Discovery Centre is an interpretive centre connecting
communities in discovery and celebration of the living, working Fraser
River. It is located at 788 Quayside Drive, New Westminster. The Discovery
