JOB POSTING
The Fraser River Discovery Centre, in New Westminster, BC, is a
newly-expanded interpretive centre that connects visitors to the River's
history, environments, industry, people and communities. The FRDC, operating
as a non-profit society, is a hands-on interpretive centre with the mission
to be recognized as a Centre of Excellence for stimulating passion,
education, and enlightenment about the Fraser River, taking a key leadership
role in enhancing the health and sustainability of the Fraser River. The
centre recently completed an expansion that tripled its size - it will
re-open this Spring and is looking for a Part-time interpreter.
Summary
Reporting to the Executive Director through the Education Coordinator and
Education Assistant, Interpreters are responsible for the interpretation of
the Fraser River to FRDC visitors. Interpreters are also responsible for
visitor reception, maintaining the safety and security of FRDC facility and
contents.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
* Responsible for interpretation of the Fraser River to FRDC
Visitors including conducting tours, presenting educational programs and
assisting in special event execution
* Responsible for visitor reception and answering public inquiries
about FRDC hours of operation, location, exhibition and program information,
and related matters
* Registering program bookings and collecting fees, and processing
gift shop transactions,
* Responsible for maintaining the safety and security of FRDC
buildings, contents, and visitors, and reporting building maintenance needs
to the Operations Assistant.
* Perform other related duties as required.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
* Completion or near completion of high school degree
* Interest in history, environmental issues, ecology, tourism and/or
education
* High level of customer service;
* Able to work independently on projects and also collaborate as a
strong team member;
* Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and
written;
* Working knowledge of retail shop procedures
* Proven excellent customer service skills and enjoys working with the
public;
* Experience working with volunteers and in the non-profit sector is
also desirable;
* Language of work: English, second language an asset
HOURS: Part-time, 12 hours per week, 9:45 - 4:15 (possibility of increased
hours from June to August)
RATE: $10.25/ hr plus 4% in lieu of vacation
