Many good points, Bill, and I agree with some of them.
Why is this a government responsibility?
I believe our history and our museums are a Canadian legacy which qualifies
in importance similar to education.
Should schools be privatized?
Armed Forces?
Police?
Prisons?
Health care?
Mental clinics?
Some people would say yes.
I say no.
The common weal of the people must be protected by a responsible, elected
government, and museums and education are part of this.
One of my first funding successes was with the Department of Heritage, then
under Ann Edwards.
The following year, this department was gone, and I was advised to apply to
the Vancouver Foundation.
Call it what you want, aside from money making potential [hence under
tourism] the present government doesn't have much interest in supporting
heritage through museums.
I include the Federal and Provincial, it makes little difference, it is all
taxpayers money.
