Visual Arts Studios is an Intermedia Art Studio that focuses on the
development of interdisciplinary art practice.
This year the summer session of July – August 2009, we are hosting a
residency (Internship) for one of our cultural partners Voice Pictures
Ltd. Voice pictures is a film-video company dedicated to the development
of Art Video, Documentary and commercial Video (films). Voice Pictures
principal focus is on Art and Cultural Documentaries, Corporate films
that are centered on social, social justice issues, such as homelessness
and the challenge of providing access to housing and medical services to
the marginalized or representing the dynamics of distinct cultures from
around the world.
The current residency is focused on the development of existing
projects that are components of a program of collaborative art making
that will evolve at the studio this summer as part of John Orser Inter
media Installation Document 2009.
This ongoing artwork is part of Orsers continuing development of Art
within the scope of his current project Document 2009 that will run
through 2011.
Each year the studios invite collaborations and engagements with other
professional artists and the public.
This year Orser’s program of work will focus on the development of
Document 2009 video components which includes principal photography that
records the on going development and transformations of Orser object
base art making with in Document. This will include video of performance
and spoken word contributions from one of Canada’s permanent literary
figures, who has published several books in both prose and poetry, and
is one of Canada’s most important literary critics.
As well as the generation of the video components for Orser’s
intermedia artworks we will be developing a basis for new projects, a
documentary with a working title of The Working Pictures Of the Dharma,
which is based on five Thanka painters from Nepal – Tibet.
This year’s residency is focused on a candidate that has strong
interpersonal skills and can work as part of a collaborative team.
The core skill area of this candidate will require a current working
knowledge of Finial Cut Express with specific strengths in video
production and postproduction experience.
The candidate will have some experience in producing short format video
and be capable of handling a number of demands such as making a
contribution to principal photograph, familiar with logging and editing
video tape rushes, assembling edits and those other related
postproduction skills.
An interest and or experience with other forms of visual arts are an
asset as well as some experience with sound and or music recording.
This is an open call and we will require an initial letter of
introduction and request for the prospectus, a resume out lining your
training and experience.
There is an administration fee of $ 50.00 (none refundable) for all
applicants made payable to Voice Pictures Ltd. for the prospectus. This
is a paid internship and the candidate is expected to be flexible in
skills and work routines. This is a paid contract position. All
applications are due July 10 2009, 4 pm pacific time, later applications
will not be considered.
On receipt of a request for the proposal and application procedure, a
description of this year’s program of engagement will be sent out once
we processed payment and the intial letter for the RFP and considered
the suitability of the letter of introduction and request for proposal.
The request for prospectus should fit one page 8.5 inches by 11 inches
single side sheet in 13-point type. Only email applications will be
