Re: International Women's Day Event March 16, Ambrosia Centre

Dear Friends,

I am writing to invite you to attend my annual celebration of International
Women's Day.

The theme this year is An Economy of the Future: How Women Are Shaping
Progressive Change Through the Arts, Entrepreneurship and Sustainability.

It will be held March 16, 7-9 p.m. at the Ambrosia Conference and Event
Centre, 638 Fisgard Street in downtown Victoria.

In light of the current economic crisis, I thought it would be a perfect
opportunity to celebrate the ideas, energy and creativity of women in this
community who are contributing to a forward-thinking vision for Canada.
We'll do this as part of an enjoyable evening, with entertainment, a
selection of Vancouver Island snacks and an opportunity for women to talk
with other women.

Several speakers will also share their perspectives:

Amarjit Bhalla, of the Victoria Immigrant and Refugee Centre Society.

Elizabeth Cull, former BC NDP cabinet minister and MLA and owner of Dig
This.

Janis Dunning, Co-Founding Director, Canadian College of Performing Arts

Nitja Harris, executive director of the SolarBC Program.

This year the event is in honour of Betty Stevens, a tireless champion for
women and workers' rights, who passed away last year. A guest speaker will
talk about the CLC's Women's Economic Equality Campaign, which Betty
worked on and supported.

In addition, I am making several areas in the hall available for those who
attend to share their literature and displays of their work or services.

Please contact my assistant Hilary Stead at 250-507-7056 for more
information about this.

The event is free, but space is limited so if you wish to attend you must
call 250-363-3600 to reserve a seat.

I look forward to seeing many of you on March 16.

Sincerely,
Denise Savoie
