For Immediate Release:

A Walk Through the City: Experiencing Victoria as a Flâneur

Featuring Works from the Michael C. Williams Collection

To March 29, 2009 at the Legacy Art Gallery and Café

The Legacy Art Gallery and Café presents “A Walk Through the City:
Experiencing Victoria as a Flâneur.” The exhibit highlights the
Michael C. Williams collection by featuring a selection of works from
Noah Becker, Herbert Siebner, Maxwell Bates, and other noted Victoria
artists.

Through a collaborative curatorial process, a University of Victoria
class has produced a rich and powerful showcase about the interaction
between the individual and city space. By exploring the concept of the
Flâneur, which was most famously described by Charles Baudelaire in
the nineteenth century, this exhibit will offer a new and exciting
perspective on experiencing the city, and specifically the downtown
core of Greater Victoria. “A Walk Through the City” features a variety
of different media such as ink works, print works, and paintings.

This exhibit will be on display from Wednesday, March 4, 2009 to
Sunday, March 29, 2009 at the Legacy Art Gallery and Café. Regular
gallery hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Wednesday to Sunday.

“The crowd is his element, as the air is that of birds and water of fishes."
Benjamin Walter on the Flâneur (1997-)
