Hello;

There is a simple solution to your audio problems which we have used on
several exhibits. The company is called ACS Control at
http://www.acscontrol.com.  It's a small box that operates from a
compact flash card. The flash card is loaded with sounds from your
computer and can operate continuously, sensor activated or
interactively. It has great sound quality and is extremely flexible.

The biggest problem with a cheap mp3 player is the ability to activate 
it when you want. In the old days, I used to buy cheap car tape decks 
with auto rewind or a continuous loop hooked to a motion detector power 
plug. They worked well as all the needed to start up was the power to 
come on.

In recent years I have played with digital photo frames that have audio 
ability. You can use them just for audio or use the photo \ video 
function as well. A lot cheaper than stuff specifically designed for 
exhibits. The problem I have found with these and mp3 players is that 
they need more than just the power coming on to start the audio, you 
have to actually tell it to play, so a simple motion dectector turning 
on the power is not enough. So using the auto repeat function in the mp3

or photo frames is the simple solution.

A couple of companies have come out with photo frames with built in 
motion detectors, but I have yet to see one that also has audio. I am 
sure this will come in time.
