vidual to fill a temporary full-time Summer Career Placement for a Museum A=
ssistant - Curatorial from approximately May 9, 2009 to approximately Augus=
t 30, 2009 (dependent on funding).
1. Duties and Responsibilities
As a student employee in the Recreation, Culture and Parks Division of the =
Township of Langley , the incumbent will work on short-term projects at the=
Langley Centennial Museum . Summer Curatorial projects are aimed at the c=
are of, establishing proper intellectual control over, and effective use ou=
r collection in the most professional manner affordable so that the Museum =
can connect with people in our community and beyond by making the artifacts=
and information resources in our profession more accessible, useful, and v=
aluable to our visitors and research clientele.
The Museum Assistant - Curatorial will be aimed at supporting the following=
project goals:
=B7 Photograph and document artifacts as required
=B7 Collections records data entry including photographing artifac=
ts, scanning photographs, etc.
=B7 Assist with reorganization and maintenance of main collections=
storage area
=B7 Carry out basic artifact cleaning & proper re-housing for stor=
age
=B7 Assist with temporary exhibitions change involving dismantling=
the existing and mounting the new displays, preparing exhibition mounts, p=
articipating in the review, editing, and mounting of label copy, photo and =
other documentation of the installation
=B7 Assist with research and development for future exhibitions
=B7 Assist with refurbishing of permanent exhibitions
=B7 Assist with preparations, set-up, take-down, and staffing the =
Museum's major public events
=B7 Assist with day-to-day Museum operations including opening & c=
losing, participating with other colleagues in staffing the reception desk =
for lunch coverage, Gift Shop retail sales as help is occasionally required=
with this function
=B7 Other duties as reasonably assigned
2. Qualifications, Knowledge and Skills required for this position incl=
ude:
=B7 University or college student entering second year of study or=
above, with courses in history, anthropology, arts, museum studies, or re=
lated fields
=B7 Computer skills including knowledge & experience using word pr=
ocessing, Access, Excel , and Past Perfect software would be definite asset=
s
=B7 Excellent organizational, technical writing, and research skil=
ls
=B7 Excellent interpersonal skills, preferably with experience in =
the service industry
=B7 Previous experience in a museum environment would be a definit=
e asset
=B7 Because of the physical nature of much of the work proposed, t=
he candidate must be physically capable of lifting 35 lb. from floor to tab=
le height and 20 lb. from table to head height
=B7 Access to their own transportation

Canada , preferably returning to school and between the ages of 16 to 30 a=

1. Duties and Responsibilities
As a student employee in the Recreation, Culture and Parks Division of the =
Township of Langley , the incumbent will work on short-term projects at the=
Langley Centennial Museum & National Exhibition Centre. Summer Education =
projects will be aimed at enriching public programming - for children, fami=
lies, and school groups thereby increasing participation at our Museum.
The Museum Assistant - Education will be engaged in the following:
=B7 Present 7 Craft and Create day camp programs throughout the sum=
mer to children 6 - 12 years and develop themes and activities for Heritage=
themed programs to be delivered in 2010.
=B7 Working with the Educator, review and revise as needed existing=
school programs to accommodate changes in the BC Curriculum established by=
the Ministry of Education.
=B7 Update the Teaching collection inventory by cataloguing new acq=
uisitions. This will facilitate not only use within the existing school pr=
ograms but also the development of school and community traveling trunks wh=
ich are planned for the near future.
=B7 Participate in, and supervise youth volunteers at, a variety of=
community outreach events including parades and other special community ev=
ents.
=B7 Co-host and participate in a professional development day orien=
tation at the Museum for local teachers.
=B7 Assist the Educator in designing new school programs for implem=
entation in the 2009/10 school year.
=B7 Other duties as reasonably assigned.
2. Qualifications, Knowledge and Skills required for this position inclu=
de:
=B7 University student in third or fourth year of study, with cours=
es in Education, and a background in History, Fine Arts, Museum Studies, or=
other related field.
=B7 Computer skills, including experience using word processing, is=
required; some knowledge of, Access, PowerPoint, Excel and desk top publis=
hing would be an asset.
=B7 Excellent research and writing skills;
=B7 Excellent interpersonal skills, preferably with some experience=
in public relations or customer service.
=B7 Previous experience in a Museum environment would be an asset.
