The Railway and Forestry Museum in Prince George is located right beside the
juncture of the Fraser and Nechako Rivers. This area experienced ice flow
problems last year which resulted in massive flooding. Thankfully, the
Museum did not receive any flooding damage (we were located right on the
cusp of at the flooded area).
Our insurance premiums has not increased whatsoever. Our insurance agent is
Hub International, Barton Insurance Brokers.
Hope this helps.

Subject: [Bcma-l] Re: Museum Insurance Packages
Greetings from 'Ksan
I am curious to know if there are other BC museums located in close
proximity to a river, and has there museum insurance premiums escalated due
to the 2007 spring flood. 'Ksan evacuated in 2007 because there was a
provincial flood warning on most, if not all major BC Rivers. 'Ksan is
located at the junction of the Bulkley and Skeena Rivers. 'Ksan did not
receive flood damage. But, we did remove our assets while we waited for the
flood warning to be lifted.
'Ksan switched from AON Stenhouse to Marsh Canada Insurance and our premium
escalated to $29,700 per year. Marsh Canada went out to the market place to
find a broker to cover property. A broker named Elliot picked up the
property portion and the premium escalated as we are now deemed 'high-risk'
because of the spring flood.
We have been on the property since 1968. Waters have been high from time to
time, but we have never received water in the buildings.
I have obtained a geodetic map from Regional District indicating a one in 50
year event (flood) and a one in 200 year event. I plan to send this off to
Marsh Canada. Not sure if it will help.
Any thoughts?
