International Honour!  

 

Lesia Davis, Executive Director of the Campbell River Museum has been invited as a keynote speaker at an International Symposium on Indigenous People/Culture and Tourism, on October 17 and 18th in Hokkaido, Japan.     "It is such an honour and speaks highly of our Museum to be the only one invited  from Canada." says Ms. Davis. "I will be speaking along with representatives from The World Indigenous Network, the University of New Zealand, Kobe University, the Alaska Native Heritage Centre and Kamchatka."  

 

The Curator from the Hokkaido Museum of Northern Peoples visited our Museum several years ago for research and was very impressed with our First Nations exhibits.  The Museum Board is extremely proud of the invitation, and the recognition of our Museum and Executive Director.  

 

As an International class, award winning Museum, it is gratifying that the Museum's excellent exhibits and programs are being recognized once again.  Ms. Davis was also invited to speak at a Global Museums Conference in 2002 and  two previous awards received by the Museum and Ms. Davis, were both the highest honours across BC.

 

Cultural tourism and the creative industries are a significant contributor to both the quality of life in Campbell River and as economic drivers to attract residents and business to our community.
