My heart sinks every time I hear about another organization who's suffered a
serious blow because of the cuts to the BC Arts Council and the Direct
Access Grants; although I believe that museums and other cultural facilities
have become far too dependent on grants, for cuts to happen like this
without any notice or without the chance to adjust business plans is
sickening. We have to change our ways, but this is not the way it should
happen.

Hopefully the discussions that have started over the last few weeks on this
listserv will continue in force at the Fall Conference. It has been a long
time since I've seen this much thought-provoking discussion amongst such a
diverse set of contributors on this list. Thank you all for all these ideas
to ponder and consider.
