20th Anniversary Gala Dinner celebration to be held in newly renovated
Fraser River Discovery Centre
New Westminster, BC - On Thursday October 29th, the Fraser River Discovery
Centre invites everyone to honour the river community at its annual Gala
Dinner. For the first time, the Gala will be held at the newly renovated
Fraser River Discovery Centre in New Westminster. The spectacular venue will
offer a dramatic setting for the event. Guests will enjoy cocktail hour in
the Lower Fraser Gallery and the Birds of Prey exhibit before being treated
to a fine four-course dinner served in the Upper Fraser Gallery.
In 1989 the Fraser River Discovery Centre Society was established with the
intention to educate visitors about the mighty Fraser through an interactive
interpretive centre. In March 2009, twenty years of hard work by many paid
off when the newly renovated Discovery Centre opened its doors. As the
Society celebrates its 20th Anniversary and the re-opening of the Discovery
Centre, the entire river community will be honoured for its contributions to
and involvement with the Fraser River.
Karen Baker-MacGrotty, Chair of the Gala Dinner Committee says, "With the
re-opening of our expanded and enhanced Discovery Centre this year, the
interest and excitement continues to build as we come closer to bringing the
dream of a world-class interpretive centre about the living, working Fraser
River to reality. We anticipate this year's 20th Anniversary Gala will be a
very special evening for everyone as we pay tribute to the numerous river
community patrons, companies and organizations who have shared and supported
the vision."
"The construction of the building has been an important focus over the last
20 years. We now focus on the building uses and the amazing exhibit,
programming and special event opportunities such a great facility offers"
explains Catherine Ouellet-Martin, Executive Director. "It is most
appropriate and very exciting to host the dinner right here in the centre
and share with our guests the beauty and proximity of the River."
This high profile industry and community event is a major fundraiser for the
Discovery Centre. The Society encourages everyone to purchase a ticket or
table and spend an enjoyable evening along the river. Tickets are $165 each
or $1500 for a table of 10. Tickets can be purchased by phone 604-521-8401
or by email info at fraserriverdiscovery.org.
The Society is also looking for photographs and personal recollections from
the Fraser River to be used in a multi-media presentation during the dinner.
If you have a photo or story you'd like to be included please contact
Kathleen Bertrand at 604-521-8401 ext. 104 or
