BCMA's 2009 Provincial Workshop
October 15-17, 2009 - Osoyoos, BC
_______________________________________________
Greetings from the BC Museums Association!
Amid the Province's arts & culture funding turmoil, the BCMA's 2009
Provincial Workshop, "*Survivor Osoyoos: **/ReTink, ReTool, ReWork! /*"
has become more a propos every day.
But unlike the global hit TV show that first quarantines unsuspecting
contestants in a paradise setting where they are systematically
eliminated one by one.../(hmmm...).../the BCMA's version of Survivor
Osoyoos offers a spectacular South Okanagan oasis where BC's museums,
art galleries, archives, historic sites and heritage institutions can
also "ReGroup" to ReThink, ReTool & ReWork in the face of the Province's
stark funding picture.
The new "provincial workshop" format replaces the traditional annual
Conference this year in response, with a greater emphasis on 'How To's'
and new Best Practices Toolkits for every topic offered, for your, or
your institution's, continued reference and application long after the
Workshop is over.
Go to the BCMA's "Conference" homepage for an updated Schedule at a
Glance, Instructor profiles, Workshop Descriptions, and downloadable
Registration Form, at:
_http://www.museumsassn.bc.ca/Content/Conference/Welcome.asp_
With current economics and budget considerations in mind, as a
Provincial Workshop, you can register "a la carte" from 25 concurrent
half-day, full-day or special 2-day CCI workshops and events to suit
your own schedule and budget, at far greater savings over usual
Conference registration fees:
/YOU/ design your own workshop schedule and learning experience, with
more 'takeaways' and practical applications.
We have also preserved our Conference traditions of BC Reports (with a
"Taste of the Okanagan" Reception at Nk'Mip Desert Cultural Centre); a
Guest Speaker's Luncheon; the /Museums in Motion Awards /Banquet; and a
Pancake Breakfast & AGM.
This year, in response to Provincial developments, we have just added a
facilitated "Food for Thought" Brown Bag Lunch & Plenary discussion for
all workshop participants. /Watch here for further details/...
Please visit the "Accommodation" and "Travel & Assistance" webpages:

(Please copy-and-paste these URLs into your internet browser)...
...For complete hotel booking, travel options, including Air Canada
discount flights into Penticton & CMA Workhop Bursary and BCMA travel
bursary assistance information.
Please book your Hotel accommodation on or before September 30th.
Be sure to mention "BCMA" to receive special rates.
Deadline for Workshop Registrations: *5:00pm, Monday, October 5, 2009.*
After this date a late registration fee must be applied for preparation
of extra workshop materials & Best Practices Toolkits. Workshop minimums
will be in effect, so please register at your earliest opportunity.
The BCMA has been hard at work to voice the concerns and repercussions
to our sector of the Province's budget measures and understands the
resulting challenges facing our members & arts and culture colleagues.
But as a service to our members & stakeholders, and with the support and
hard work of our regional Host Committee and Chair, Gayle Cornish, the
BCMA has persevered with plans for Survivor Osoyoos and to gather
together in the beautiful semi-desert of Osoyoos at a time we most need
to do so, and in a more time & cost efficient format that promises to
benefit all participants.
Please watch here and the BCMA website for updates.
Please circulate this announcement to your members.
See you, fellow "Survivors" in Osoyoos, BC, October 15-17th!
Thank you.
