Best-selling Author to Visit the BC Forest Discovery Centre

Cowichan – Best-selling author Dr. Richard Mackie will be presenting his new
book, Mountain Timber, at the BC Forest Discovery Centre this fall. The
presentation is part of his book launch tour and includes an overview of the
book, a slide show of rarely seen historical photographs, and a book
signing.

Mountain Timber is the sequel to Dr. Mackie’s book, Island Timber, which has
sold nearly 7,000 copies to date. Mountain Timber covers the Comox Logging
Company’s operations on the mountains of Vancouver Island from 1925-1945.
“Dr. Mackie’s books appeal to a wide audience because of his focus on the
community experience, not just logging,” says Aimee Greenaway, Program and
Collections Coordinator at the museum. “The book highlights stories about
loggers, their families, and the communities they created. It’s also richly
illustrated with 340 historical photographs from private collections.”

The BC Forest Discovery Centre continues to broaden the appeal of its public
programming and extend its traditional operating season. “The timing of Dr.
Mackie’s presentation at the museum is perfect,” says Vicki Holman, manager
of the Centre. “The Summer Book Club was so popular that we’ve been looking
at ways to expand the author presentation series.”

The presentation takes place on Thursday, October 22 at 6:00 pm at the BC
Forest Discovery Centre. Pre registration is encouraged but not required.
Copies of Mountain Timber will be available for purchase. Admission is by
donation or free for members. For more information, contact (250) 715-1113
