Last chance to see Treasures at the Royal BC Museum
VICTORIA, BC - With Treasures: The World's Cultures from the British
Museum set to close its run at the Royal BC Museum (RBCM) Sept 30,
visitors have one final week to view this collection of cultural
artifacts.
And as Treasures heads home to London, UK, the Royal BC Museum will
be preparing two new exhibitions:
v S'abadeb -- The Gifts: Pacific Coast Salish Art and Artists, the
next major show coming to the RBCM, makes its Canadian premiere Nov.
20, 2009 - March 8, 2010. The exhibition showcases 165 works of art from
the Salish First Nations of BC and Washington state - historic sculpture,
basketry and weaving are displayed alongside contemporary artworks to
emphasize the ongoing vitality of today's Salish artistic traditions.
v From Oct. 23, 2009 to Jan. 10, 2010, the RBCM presents Silver of
the Stars - a collection of contemporary silver designed by, and created
for, some of the biggest names in film, music, fashion, theatre and
literature. Based on the theme "a drink with a close friend," 10
celebrities, including Sir Sean Connery, Robbie Coltrane and Ewan
McGregor, teamed up with Scottish silversmiths to create elaborate
drinking vessels.

Treasures: The World's Cultures from the British Museum brings together
309 of the most celebrated objects from the renowned British Museum
collection and showcases the objects that define human culture -
travelling across 1.5 million years and through all parts of the world.
