Good evening everyone! Please check out the new Squamish Historical
Society's website! www.squamishhistory.ca <http://www.squamishhistory.ca/>
The website promises to be a continuing work in progress however, in the
mean time, check out the over 1100 archived images from the Squamish Public
Library and Squamish Town Centre Association online. These images and
accompanying history can currently be found around downtown on the Squamish
Business Improvement Association's poster project. These images can be
downloaded from the SHS website. A great big thanks to Cindy Cardiff of Trek
Photography and Venture Web for all their help and assistance with the site.
Here is upcoming news that can be accessed from the SHS's website Latest
News section:
October 1, 2009: SHS receives $2000 grant from the Squamish Community
Foundation
This Squamish Community Foundation grant will go towards outfitting the
Wilkie Building, the SHS's future exhibit space donated to the organization
by the West Coast Railway Heritage Park. The monies will be used for
presentation materials within the building's interior. Items on the wish
include audio visual equipment such as a TV, DVD player and lap top. These
items will aid the visiting public in accessing our new SHS website's vast
online archive of photographs and history at www.squamishhistory.ca
<http://www.squamishhistory.ca/> and to showcase the SHS's current
collection of original SHS film productions. To date those include "The West
Coast Logging Life", "Squamish Nation: Stories from the Heart" and the soon
to be released "The First People of the Pacific North West." The WCRHP is
currently putting out a RFP for the construction of a concrete foundation
for the building.
October 8th, 2009: October SHS Membership Meeting: Check out the Wilkie
Building!
This month's membership meeting will take place on Thursday, October 8th at
4 pm at the West Coast Railway Heritage Park. Members and new members are
welcome to attend. On the agenda will be a guided tour of the grounds
including the Wilkie Building, the SHS's future exhibit space, the 1890 BC
Business Car and the Round House by Nathan Pinfield, the Park's Guest
Services and Marketing Manager.
In closing, the Squamish Historical Society would like to take a moment to
remember Dr. Laverne Kindree and his momentous contributions and passion for
our community. Our thoughts and prayers are with his wife and family as we
honour him for his achievements that we as a community have benefited from.
