*JOB POSTING *Curator, Richmond Art Gallery
$33.32 - $39.36 (per hour)  Regular Full-Time
 
The Richmond Art Gallery (RAG) is a public gallery operated in a 
partnership between the City of Richmond and the Richmond Art Gallery 
Association (RAGA).  The vision of the RAG is "to be one of the most 
important public galleries in Canada and to increasingly enlarge our 
audiences and their understanding and enjoyment of contemporary art".
 
We are currently seeking a dynamic experienced individual to join the 
team as the Curator of the RAG.  The Curator assumes the lead role in 
research, selection, planning, organizing and evaluation of exhibitions 
and publications, as well as the permanent collection. 
  
*_DUTIES:_*
*Curatorial -- Exhibitions and Publications:*
·Conducts research and presents exhibitions, outreach exhibitions and 
publications on topics in contemporary art;
·Prepares potential exhibitions for presentation to the Director and 
Program Team for consideration;  
·Identifies and oversees the presentation of touring exhibitions from 
other institutions;
·Writes curatorial material for exhibitions, publications, articles and 
promotional material;
·In consultation with the Director and Exhibition and Gallery 
Coordinator, administers, and works within budgets as they relate to 
exhibitions and publications;
·Supervises Preparator and works with guest curators to install and 
dismantle exhibitions, as required;
·Writes and prepares curatorial sections of grant applications or 
assists in the preparation of grant applications as assigned by Director;
·Presents talks to the public, staff and board regarding contemporary 
art and exhibitions;
·In consultation with the Director, assumes the lead role in research on 
appropriate subject area(s) of the collection and supervises the work of 
other researchers in the collection;
·In consultation with the Director administers and works within the 
budget as it relates to acquisitions and permanent collection maintenance;
·Works with the Director in determining the direction of the permanent 
collection and presents all potential acquisitions to the Director for 
consideration;
·Coordinates with the Director all matters related to the collection, 
including loan requests and conservation; 
·Works with volunteers and performs other duties as required.
 
*_QUALIFICATIONS:_*
*__*Masters Degree in Studio Arts, Curatorial Studies and/or Art History 
or related field of study, accompanied by a minimum of three years 
professional experience in similar positions or an equivalent 
combination of training and experience will be considered.  The 
incumbent will have demonstrated credibility as a curatorial 
professional; a broad knowledge of contemporary art and community 
involvement; creativity and passion for the work; commitment to 
innovative programming and the proven ability to translate ideas into an 
ambitious exhibitions program that forges a strong connection to the 
local community; sensitivity to the role of a public contemporary art 
institution in an urban centre and an eagerness to develop and encourage 
programming that reflects the rich diversity of the community and the 
art world at large.  The successful candidate will possess strong 
leadership and management skills, be an outstanding communicator and 
demonstrate the ability to work collegially and collaboratively with a 
broad range of staff.  Experience in a public gallery or municipal 
environment is an asset. Ability to successfully pass a criminal record 
check.
