Award winning photographer coming to the Fraser River Discovery Centre

New Westminster, BC - On Saturday April 24, photographers and photography
buffs will sit down with award winning photographer Rick Blacklaws at the
Fraser River Discovery Centre. Blacklaws will be discussing his experiences
documenting the landscape of the Fraser River at "Fraser through the Lens"
at 2pm.

Blacklaws is trained in landscape photography and has spent over thirty
years photographing the diversity of the Fraser River basin. His work has
been published in a number of books, including "The Fraser River" which won
the 1997 Roderick Haig-Brown Regional Book Prize. He recently traveled down
the river as part of the documentary film "The Fraser Journey". Blacklaws is
currently an anthropology and archaeology instructor at Langara College.

Blacklaw's photographs capture the beauty of the basin from the glacial
stream at the base of Mount Robson, through the white water rapids of the
canyon, to the silt mudflats at the mouth of the river. His photos have
often been used by the Discovery Centre in their programs and exhibits.
Shannon King, Education Coordinator says "Rick has such a keen eye for
capturing the feeling of a place. Intellectually, I know the Fraser River is
important to this province, but when I look at Rick's pictures, I really
feel it. I am looking forward to hearing the stories behind the pictures".

"Fraser through the Lens" will be held on Saturday April 24 from 2-3:30pm.
The cost is $10 per person and includes admission to the Discovery Centre.
Pre-registration is required by April 16. Please call 604-521-8401 or email
<mailto:info at fraserriverdiscovery.org> info at fraserriverdiscovery.org to
