The Quatse Salmon Stewardship Centre requires an Interpretative Guide and a Program and Event Coordinator.
Duration of work May 15th to September 1st, 2010
Hours/week 40 hours per week
9:30 am - 5:30 pm
Wage $11/hr
Both positions are subject to grant approval.
The Centre focuses on education surrounding salmonids and challenges to their survival, with a strong message of hope for the resource. Successful candidates will enjoy an educational summer working with, and teaching about one of British Columbia's most valuable resources: salmon. The Quatse Salmon Stewardship Centre is located on Northern Vancouver Island, in Port Hardy, BC.
Interpretative Guide
Responsibilities include:
a.. Complete Quatse Salmon Stewardship Centre orientation and review of mission, policies and procedures
b.. Develop a guided and non guided tour outline
c.. Provide guided tours to the public at set times throughout the day
d.. Be available to answer general questions posed by the public
e.. Assist with delivery of education programs and special events
f.. Assist with daily centre operations
g.. Assist with exhibit development
The ideal candidate:
a.. Is enrolled in a general arts or science program
b.. Has a background in tourism
c.. Is knowledgeable and interested in British Columbia's Salmon resource
d.. Has superior communication skills & provides excellent customer service
e.. Is self-motivated and able to work independently
f.. Has experience and enjoys working with children
g.. Is outgoing and enjoys meeting people
h.. Is proficient in the English language, both written and spoken
Program and Events Coordinator Include:
Responsibilities include:
a.. Complete Quatse Salmon Stewardship Centre orientation and review of mission, policies and procedures
b.. Assist with the delivery and development of education programs
c.. Plan and implement family oriented activities for community events
d.. Assist with the planning and implementation of signature event, a new annual event celebrating the return of Salmon to North Island streams
e.. Contribute to public awareness of and access to the programs and services offered by the Centre
f.. Assist with design and implementation of advertising and promotions for education programs and events, and develop content for the webpage
g.. Assist with daily centre operations
The ideal candidate:
a.. Is enrolled in a general arts or science program
b.. Has a background in event co-ordination and program planning.
c.. Is knowledgeable and interested in British Columbia's Salmon resource
d.. Has experience and enjoys working with children
e.. Is outgoing and enjoys meeting people
f.. Has superior communication skills & provides excellent customer service
g.. Is self-motivated and able to work independently
h.. Possesses excellent organisational and computer skills
i.. Is proficient in the English language, both written and spoken

a.. A Canadian citizen or legally entitled to work in Canada.
