Guest Authors Visit the BC Forest Discovery Centre!
Cowichan Enjoy a great read and step back into Vancouver Islands past
this spring by attending the BC Forest Discovery Centre guest author series.
The books were chosen for their incredible stories of the people and events
that created vibrant local communities. Both books are written by
well-known and respected authors, says Aimee Greenaway, the museums
Curator. Joan Mayos Paldi Remembered provides a glimpse into the
culturally diverse lives of workers and families in a sawmill community
while Robert Turners Logging By Rail takes readers back to a time when
locomotives were steaming their way into local forests and the forest
industry was booming. The authors will be visiting the museum in May and
June to speak about their books and to meet readers.
After a positive response to guest authors last summer, the BC Forest
Discovery Centre expanded the 2010 series to include the spring and fall.
We enjoy presenting different perspectives from history to the public,
says Ms Greenaway. Not only are the authors available at the end for book
signings and questions, they also provide insider information about the
people and events in the books. Additional authors are being confirmed for
the summer and fall months and will be posted soon at the museums website,
www.discoveryforest.com.
The author presentations will take place on Thursday, May 20 for Paldi
Remembered and on Thursday, June 17 for Logging By Rail. The presentations
begin at 6:00 pm, after the museum closes for the day. Admission is by
donation and members may use their seasons pass. For more information
visit www.discoveryforest.com or phone 250 715-1113 ext. 25.
The BC Forest Discovery Centre is a 100-acre, open-air museum with an
operational railway. The museum cares for over 5,000 artifacts including
heritage buildings and industrial machinery. In addition to indoor and
outdoor exhibits spaces, the grounds include walking trails through the
forest and Somenos Marsh.
