December 8, 2010 - Kelowna, BC: The Kelowna Art Gallery is pleased to
announce the opening of a new exhibition featuring the works of a late
Kelowna artist. Doug Biden: Visceral Allegories is a posthumous survey
show of the artist's works, on view from December 18, 2010 to January
30, 2011. Doug Biden was a highly talented and creative printmaker who
died from cancer in mid-career in 2007. He was an instructor at the
University of British Columbia Okanagan in Kelowna, and was well loved
by his students and artist peers.

Organized and circulated by the Burnaby Art Gallery, Doug Biden:
Visceral Allegories comprises seventy-seven works and is curated by
Darrin Martens at the Burnaby Art Gallery, with the help of Biden's
widow, Ingrid. The show is accompanied by a full-colour catalogue with
an essay by Martens that explains the artist's thinking in connection
with each of his distinct series of works. Augmenting the show will be
an additional loan from Ingrid Biden of a long, accordion-style bookwork
on its own custom-made table. The Gallery is also showing works by
several of Biden's former students from UBCO in our Scotiabank Studio
space.

"The Kelowna Art Gallery is honoured to be bringing this show to the
city", says Liz Wylie, Curator at the Kelowna Art Gallery. "Biden's work
has a substantial following. We are most grateful to the Burnaby Art
Gallery, curator Darrin Martens, and Ingrid Biden, for their
contribution to this exhibition."

An opening reception to celebrate the exhibition will be held on Friday,
December 17 from 7-9 pm at the Kelowna Art Gallery. The reception is
free and open to the public, and is also being held to celebrate two
other exhibitions which open at the Gallery on the same date.
