World-class Historic Site Includes Mill Building & Underground Mine Train
Ride

For Immediate Release
February 3, 2010

Britannia Beach, BC: The BC Museum of Mining, a prominent historical
destination located in Britannia Beach 10 minutes south of Squamish, and its
historic Mill Building and underground train ride are open for the 2010
season.

The museum promotes mining awareness through entertaining, experiential
education programs, important historic collection preservation and
insightful public engagement about the environment and sustainability
issues. Surrounded by the majestic Coastal Mountains and the spectacular
beauty of Howe Sound, the museum provides a unique blend of entertainment
and information that allows guests to leave with a better understanding of
mining in BC; past, present and future.

"With thousands of visitors coming to British Columbia over the next few
weeks, we're excited to showcase and share one of the province's few
historic mining assets and a unique National Historic Site with the world,"
says Kirstin Clausen, executive director of the BC Museum of Mining.

Museum attractions include 15 historic buildings and an underground mining
tunnel as well as the recently completed $5 million rehabilitation of the
20-storey Mill Building, a National Historic Site and one of the last
gravity-fed concentrator mills in North America. Onsite entertainment and
activities include:

.        Underground train ride deep inside the mining tunnel;
.        Guided tours of the site and underground tunnel;
.        Mining demonstrations and hands-on activities;
. Museum exhibits that explore BC mining history and the Britannia
Mine community;
.        Gold-panning;
.        Measure up against the giant tires of the Super-Haul Truck;
.        Children's Discovery Area.

The museum is located in the coastal community of Britannia Beach, on the
beautiful Sea to Sky Highway (Highway 99), 10 minutes south of Squamish and
45 minutes north of Vancouver. Transportation to and from the museum will
not be impacted by the traffic restrictions during the Games since
restrictions only apply once vehicles get to Squamish on the way to
Whistler.

The museum's site is currently undergoing a major $14.7-million three-phase
redevelopment project named the Britannia Project, transforming a mining
legacy site into a vibrant internationally recognized destination. Scheduled
for completion in the summer of 2010, the new site will celebrate the
contribution of minerals to society, the history of the storied community
and the ideas and practices of renewal and sustainability.
