Hi Jim- I'm not comfortable signing the petition with its current wording. I
would definitely sign one encouraging the Government to restore gaming
funding but this petition goes beyond doing just that and accuses the
government of reneging on an agreement. That may well be the case (although
I would have to do some research to confirm it) but even if that's the case
I don't agree with poking someone in the eye or insulting them just before
you ask them to do something. A straight respectful request that they
reconsider their decision would work better for me.

Does your group receive Gaming Grants?

Allow me to introduce myself. I am Geraldine Foster and President of the

"Valley Charitable Bingo Society" in the Comox Valley. I am also the

Secretary for the Bingo Council of British Columbia and a member of the

British Columbia Association for Charitable Gaming. Both these organizations
are Province wide and represent charity interests in British Columbia. Their
goal is to keep gaming revenues flowing to their rightful owners, the "Non
Profit Organizations".

Hopefully, they and you, will help us in our quest to have Gaming Grants

(Direct Access &/or Affiliation Grants) reinstated to the levels that they

were. Our not-for-profit organizations have been hit hard, as have our

schools. In fact, for some, funding has been totally eliminated. We do

not feel this is right.

We have started an online petition and would like to be sure it gets

circulated throughtout your contacts as well. The Petition went online

Friday, January 22nd in the afternoon and we are trying to get it out to as

many goups as possible. This petition is being circulated province wide, to

all Associations, their members and supporting parties. With 6800 groups in

BC receiving grants we need as many signatures as possible. Every little bit

helps. 6800 Charities................ thousands of contacts to be made.

We have tackled the Government on many occasions and now due to the

Provincial Cuts to Charitable Gaming Grants for 2009-2010 we must again take
up the fight. We need to be prepared when the "Budget" is table on March
2nd, 2010, that we again, do not suffer the same unconscionable cuts to our
funding.

With that we ask you to join us by signing the online petition and
forwarding it to as many contacts as you can. Below is the information that
can and should be forwarded to your contacts.

Petition to Reinstate All Charitable Gaming Grants in British Columbia

Petition Summary and Background

Provincial Cuts to Charitable Gaming Grants for 2009-2010

To Premier Gordon Campbell, Minister Rich Coleman and

the Legislative Assembly of British Columbia:

We the undersigned are deeply concerned with the cuts to Gaming Grants in

the province of British Columbia and how it will affect our Communities.

This is part of the preamble to an online petition that has been instituted

on behalf of all Organizations affected by the budget cuts to the gaming

grants of 2009 - 2010. Direct Access Grants and Affiliation Grans. It is

our hope that when the budget is tabled in March after the Olympics we will

not be targeted again.

We ask that each Association forwards the petition link to each of its

members with a request that they also forward the link to their members and

supporters as well.
