Press Release

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Spring Break Workshops at the Police Museum

Vancouver (February 25, 2010) - Blood spatter, fingerprints and bullets are
all featured in the Vancouver Police Museum's popular spring break programs.
In addition to its ever-popular drop-in investigation, the museum will also
be hosting special forensics-themed workshops daily during Spring Break for
kids aged 7-14 seriously interested in the forensic sciences.

Each workshop goes hands-on with a different topic, including fingerprints,
impression evidence (foot and tire prints), forensic entomology (bugs) and
ballistics (bullets). A workshop for older students on blood spatter will
also be offered. After the workshop, students are welcome to explore the
museum and put their new skills to the test by participating in the Drop-In
Investigation.

"Our forensics-themed educational programs have always been very popular,"
says Chris Mathieson, Executive Director at the Vancouver Police Museum.
"Last year we had 8,000 students participate in our educational programs.
Teachers love that their students get a chance to get hands-on with the
science of modern police work."

Ideally suited for this subject matter, the Police Museum is housed in a
building that was once both the Coroner's Court and the City Analyst's
laboratory; all of the city's autopsies and much of its forensic lab work
was undertaken there until 1980. Today, the museum's main gallery is in the
original Coroner's Courtroom and both the old morgue and autopsy room are
featured as their own displays. Rounding out the museum are displays on the
history of the tools, squads and personnel of the Vancouver Police Museum as
well as confiscated weapons, counterfeit currency and more.

Spring Break Workshops run multiple times daily every day from March 8 to
12, with a different topic each day. Spaces are limited and so advanced
reservations are required.

For more information on this or any other program offered by the museum,
contact the museum at 604-665-3346 or visit www.vancouverpolicemuseum.ca.

evidence to solve a crime. You'll learn all about bugs and how they make
great witnesses

. Ballistics - This workshop will explore how we analyze guns and
bullets as evidence.

different types of evidence.

Depending on the scenario, you might take fingerprints, examine bullets
recovered from the crime scene, measure blood spatter or examine a
questioned document. Drop in and explore the science of contemporary police
work. There is a $1/person charge for this program in addition to the
regular museum admission.
