facilitated a wide variety of tourism workshops in BC communities and
regularly presents on Heritage/Cultural Tourism issues at tourism

Management Program at UVic. She has been involved in BC’s tourism industry
for over 17 years – and her expertise covers all aspects of group travel
including tour design, administration and marketing. Ursula is a part-time
instructor in the School of Business at Camosun College and a Master Trainer
for Tourism BC. She has a passion for aboriginal tourism and has been an
associate member of Aboriginal Tourism BC since 1999.

Souie Gorup was born in Halifax, NS of Mi’kmaq parentage. She began her
career by living with the Inuit of Northern Quebec carrying out community
based research such as recording Inuit world views, scientific knowledge,
and life histories. Bringing up her 3 children in Coast Salish territory,
she worked with the Te’mexw Treaty Association developing many friendships
with the Elders whose understanding, stories and perceptions she helped
document. She feels privileged to have been able to capture an understanding
of the world as seen through the Elder’s eyes and from this experience,
believes Aboriginal tourism is a vehicle to build bridges between cultures
and empower First Nations, especially youth. She worked for Parks Canada’s
Gulf Islands National Park Reserve as First Nations Liaison and played a key
role in the development of the First Nations Program that assists First
Nations tourism initiatives, training and the delivery of a youth camp.
Souie volunteered with the Cowichan North American Indigenous Games 2008 and
Aboriginal Tourism BC which is how she came to know Ursula! Souie continues
to work as an Aboriginal Relations Advisor with the Provincial Government’s
New Relationship helping support treaties and First Nations partnership
initiatives.
