Preserving Your Piece of History

Delta, BC - Have you ever wondered what to do with that shoebox of photos
from the grandparents or all the newspaper clippings you have from your
children's achievements? Well the Delta Museum and Archives has the answer
for you.

On Wednesday, February 3, the Delta Museum and Archives will be hosting a 90
minute presentation at the George Mackie Library in North Delta on
"Preserving Your Piece of History". Join Kathy Bossort, Archivist for the
Delta Museum and Archives and discover how to care for and manage your
historic and family keepsakes.

Participants will learn that the key to preserving these family treasures
lies in proper handling and storage. So you will be able to recognize the
difference between excellent and poor storage materials, Bossort will
explain why some media is more durable than others and why some technology
such as CDs and DVDs present special problems for preservation. You will
also learn about common causes of damage, and how to handle and display your
treasures without harming them with easy to use tips for extending the life
of your documents and photographs.

Bossort will discuss when it is valuable to turn to a conservator for expert
advice, and show examples of repaired documents from our valued collection.
There will be displays and hand outs to help illustrate the talk and provide
further information and resources.

This free workshop is being presented at the George Mackie Library (8440 -
112 Street) in North Delta from 7:00 to 8:30pm on Wednesday, February 3.
For more information, please call the Delta Museum and Archives at
