The Jewish Museum & Archives of British Columbia Presents:

 

A Joyful Harvest: Celebrating the Jewish Contribution to Southern
Alberta Life, 1889-2005

 

Exhibition on view: August 5 - August 31, 2010

 

Vancouver, BC, July 5, 2010 - This summer, the Jewish Museum & Archives
of British Columbia presents A Joyful Harvest: Celebrating the Jewish
Contribution to Southern Alberta Life, 1889-2005.

 

The exhibition, produced by the Jewish Historical Society of Southern
Alberta, salutes many people, places and organizations that have defined
Jewish life in southern Alberta since the arrival of the area's first
permanent Jewish settlers in 1889.  The richly illustrated exhibit
celebrates the significant impact made within and beyond Alberta by
members of the Jewish community in many fields, including agriculture,
business, education, health care, politics and the arts. The title of
the exhibit, A Joyful Harvest, is based on a verse from Psalm 126:
"Those who sow in tears shall reap in joy." It is sung on festive
occasions before the Grace after meals, and is quite applicable to the
Jewish immigrant experience in Alberta.

 

A Joyful Harvest will be on display in the Sidney & Gertrude Zack
Gallery, located in the Jewish Community Centre of Greater Vancouver
(950 W.41st Avenue, Vancouver, BC V5Z 2N7) from August 5 to August 31,
2010.  Viewing hours are Mondays through Thursdays from 8:30 a.m. to
10:30 p.m.; Fridays from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.; and Sundays from 9:00
a.m. to 9:00 p.m. Admission is by donation. Group tours are available
