Background:

 

The BC Sports Hall of Fame and Museum is a not-for-profit society,
founded in 1966 to establish a permanent tribute to the outstanding
individuals, teams, and builders of sport in the Province. The BC Sports
Hall of Fame and Museum is largely volunteer driven by a Board of
Trustees and is staffed by a team of four. The BC Sports Hall of Fame
and Museum is normally located in BC Place Stadium and has 20,000 square
feet of exciting exhibits displaying the passion and commitment of
British Columbia's athletes and teams. Visitors are able to share the
vision of those who achieved their dreams through dedication, talent and
hard work. The BC Sports Hall of Fame and Museum is the ideal place for
families, groups, and tourists to visit. More information is available

new roof at BC Place Stadium, the BC Sports Hall of Fame is not open to
the public. During this unique time we are undertaking a new BC Sports
Hall of Fame Community Outreach program. 


The BC Sports Hall of Fame and Museum is offering an exciting
opportunity to become a member of our team dedicated to serving the
organization's mission of Honouring the Past and Inspiring the Future.
Reporting to the Director of Operations, the Program Assistant is
responsible for delivering exceptional customer service to the visitors
of the BC Sports Hall of Fame and Museum Community Experience events.
The Program Assistant will play a significant role in the BC Sports Hall
of Fame's exhibit at the PNE. 

 

Position Overview:

 

The Program Assistant fulfills a key role within the BC Sports Hall of
Fame and Museum. The mission of the BC Sports Hall of Fame and Museum is
to "Honour the Past  Inspire the Future". The Program Assistant helps
the organization achieve this mission. The Program Assistant performs
many tasks within the organization. Key responsibilities include:

.        Office reception duties

.        Visitor liaison (ensure visitor have a positive  memorable
experience through high level of customer service) while hosting at
outreach events

.        Assist with Special Events as required

.        Assist curator in development, preparation and implementation
of the PNE exhibit

.        Hosting responsibilities at the PNE exhibit

The Program Assistant is joining a staff team of six and will be
involved in many areas of the operations. We are seeking a candidate who
is passionate about sports and sport history. The candidate should enjoy
working with people and have an interest in inspiring and educating the
citizens of the province. By joining our staff team the candidate must
show the drive and desire to support our organization and to take it to
its highest potential. 


Qualifications:

 

As a key member of the BC Sports Hall of Fame and Museum, the Program
Assistant will learn many valuable skills and experience a unique work
environment. Specific skills the job experience will help to develop
include:

.        Verbal and written communication

.        Formal telephone etiquette  procedures

.        Presentation skills  

.        Event support and hosting

.        Administrative tasks

 


Candidate Profile:


 

The successful candidate will possess the following qualifications:

.        Commitment to a high level of professionalism and the ability
to deliver exceptional customer service is mandatory

.        Available to work on weekends. Must be able to work flexible
hours including some evenings and holidays. Must be comfortable in a
busy environment and be able to handle many different tasks.

.        Excellent interpersonal communication skills, able to relate
well with the public, children, Honoured Members, staff members, and
volunteers.

.        Proficiency in Microsoft  Windows programs is an asset

.        Experience working with the public, museums or children is an
asset

.        Interest or knowledge of sport or history is an asset

.        are legally entitled to work in Canada;

.        are a Canadian citizen or a permanent resident, or have refugee
status in Canada;
Note: Non-Canadian students holding temporary work visas or awaiting
permanent status are not eligible.

.        are between 16 and 30 years of age at the start of employment;

.        meet the eligibility criteria of the program for which you have
been approved;

.        are registered in the YCW on-line candidate inventory;

.        are willing to commit to the full duration of the work
assignment;

.        do not have another full-time job (over 30 hours a week) while
employed with YCW;

.        have been a full-time student (as defined by your educational
institution) in the semester preceding the YCW job;

.        intend to return to full-time studies in the semester following
the YCW job.

 


Orientation Supervision:


 

A basic outline of the Program Assistant's training includes the
following:

.        General orientation of the BC Sports Hall of Fame and Museum
including a detailed tour of the exhibits

.        Orientation package of all relevant resources for exhibits,
basic history  daily tasks

.        Overview of all safety procedures

.        Supervised by Director of Operations and ultimately the
President and CEO


 


Compensation for the position is $10.50/hour. Only those candidates
