The Fraser River Discovery Centre launches skiff at FraserFest

 

New Westminster - On July 16-18, The Fraser River Discovery Centre will join
the Hyack Festival Association to celebrate the Fraser River during
FraserFest!  

 

As part of FraserFest activities, on Saturday July 17th at 11:00 am, FRDC
and the Oarlock and Sail Wooden Boat Club will be launching the 18' skiff
from our Build-a-Boat Exhibit. After months of careful and meticulous
woodworking, we have an authentic Fraser River Skiff that is river-worthy!
The launch will start with some words from FRDC representatives on the main
stage followed by a procession to the dock by the Inn at the Quay for the
actual launch. The skiff still needs a name so come by during FraserFest and
enter the boat naming contest.  

 

The Discovery Centre also has two new activity stations to explore during
FraserFest. Uncover the amazing stories of the river at our archaeological
dig. Pollute a model of the Fraser River estuary and take action to keep the
river clean. On July 16th and July 17th, activities will begin at the
Discovery Centre at 10:00am and will run until 8:00pm.  On July 18th,
activities will run from 10:00am to 4:00pm.  For more information, please

The Fraser River Discovery Centre is an interpretive centre connecting
communities in discovery and celebration of the living, working Fraser
River. It is located at 788 Quayside Drive, New Westminster. From June 1
until August 31, the Discovery Centre is open seven days a week from 10am to
4pm. Admission to the galleries is by donation.
