Museum Gears up for International Fleet Review

The Maritime Museum of BC prepares to welcome upwards of 8,000 sailors from around the world along with the rest of Victoria. A 50% military discount on admission is being offered to celebrate this momentous event. The Fleet Review gives the public a chance to establish a closer connection to the modern navy. Wednesday June 9th marks the beginning of the International Fleet Review, which will continue until the 14th.

"The Fleet Review is a wonderful opportunity for the citizens of Victoria and Vancouver Island to see an international fleet of navy vessels. It is a real compliment to Victoria and to the Canadian Navy that they would agree to be our guests," says Harry Martin, long term Maritime Museum of BC volunteer and retired Merchant Navy and Coastguard Officer. The Museum is expecting to see many of these honored guests grace their own doors during the coming days to discover more about the history of the Canadian Navy.

The Museum currently has a special exhibition on Art in the Navy highlighting some unique pieces, and also features a Royal Canadian Navy exhibit. The Maritime Museum features elements on the foundation of the Navy and its early role in protecting the Pacific.

Located in the heart of Bastion Square, the Maritime Museum of BC has a wealth of artifacts and history and is a fantastic place to get a glimpse back into the nautical customs of the North Pacific. With exhibits ranging from pirates to heritage vessels and Victoria's original 1889 Courtroom, the MMBC is always a fascinating visit.
