A Lesson in Swashbuckling

The Maritime Museum of BC is once again out and about in the community spreading some piratey knowledge! Young scalawags are invited to attend the Maritime Museum's famed Pirate School, sponsored by Coast Capital Savings. A favorite at local events, Pirate School will be making its next appearance at the Inner Harbour for the July 1st Canada Day festivities.

The Maritime Museum of BC is apt at training young minds to be the "best of the worst" as Pirate School has been running now for over a decade. "Its great exposure for the Museum and staff and kids alike love it," says Deirdre Campbell, Pirate School Coordinator, "Who doesn't want to be a pirate?"

Wannabe pirates can learn the lost art of scrimshaw, create maps to buried treasure, get "tattooed," and become skilled buccaneers with the Museum's balloon pirate swords. A merchandise table is also available to snag some mementoes of the learning experience.

If you can't make it down to the Inner Harbour on July 1st, fear not! More dastardly deeds will be happening with Pirate School throughout the summer at Sandfest, Formation Fun day and the Saanich Fair.

Located in the heart of Bastion Square, the Maritime Museum of BC has a wealth of artifacts and history and is a fantastic place to get a glimpse back into the nautical customs of the North Pacific. With exhibits ranging from pirates to heritage vessels and Victoria's original 1889 Courtroom, the MMBC is always a fascinating visit.
