FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Obscura Day: International Attention for An Unusual Local Treasure

Vancouver (March 4, 2010) - The Vancouver Police Museum has been selected as
Vancouver's contribution to Obscura Day, an international celebration of
wondrous, curious and esoteric places.

On March 20, 2010, more than seventy unusual sites from around the world
will participate in the event, providing tours of places as diverse as an
abandoned (and recently rediscovered) subway tunnel in Brooklyn, NY to a
tour of the world's largest tree-house in Crossville, TN or a tour of the
deadly Alnwick Poison Gardens in Alnwick, UK. Obscura Day is sponsored and
coordinated by Atlas Obscura (atlasobscura.com), a guide to the world's
wonders, curiosities, and esoterica.

The Police Museum will be offering up a special two-part tour to Obscura Day
participants. Part one of the tour will be of the building the museum is
housed in, Vancouver's former City Morgue and Coroner's Court. Between 1932
and 1980, close to 15,000 autopsies were performed in this space, covering
almost every major homicide and accident in the city during that period.
Special behind-the-scenes opportunities will also be included; not for the
feint of heart.

The second part will be a unique version of the museum's "Sins of the City"
tour, which explores the history of vice crime in Vancouver. Brothels,
gambling dens, opium house and strip clubs are all featured on the regular
tour, but we'll be doing something a little special, so closed-toe shoes are
REQUIRED.

These special tours will take place, rain or shine, on Saturday March 20,
2010 at 11AM and 2PM. The fee is $15 and participants must register through
the Obscura Day website. Additional information can be found at
www.obscuraday.com.
