The Oral History Coordinator is to record and produce a series interviews
with community elders and young people. The Oral History Coordinator will
also record folk or choir music from the community. Successful candidate
must be student intending to return to study after the work term. This
position is suited to (but not limited to) students in the fields of
Communication, Journalism, Italian language, Education, Humanities and Arts
programs.
Project Overview:
The primary projects of the Oral History Coordinator are to record and
produce a series interviews with community elders and young people and to
record folk or choir music from the community that will provide material to
our collection and a future museum Podcast. The Oral History Coordinator
will have a specific number of interviews and recordings to achieve.
* The choir and folk music will be available from the four
Italian-Canadian folk and traditional music groups associated with the
Italian Cultural Centre: the Vancouver Italian Folk Chorus, the Italian
Choir of British Columbia, Italian Folk Choir, and the Trevigiano-Veneto
Folk Group of Vancouver.
* The series of interviews should consist of no less than 14
individual interviews (minimum one per week).
* A report will be given to the Cultural Director on July 11th to
measure the progress of the project.
* Write an evaluation and self-assessment due August 31st.
Skills required:
* The successful candidate will be fluent in English. A working (basic
comprehension) knowledge of the Italian language is preferred.
* Candidates must be familiar with Windows-based programs and must be
proficient with Word, and Outlook.
* Candidate should be familiar with audio recording and editing
equipment and programs. (Training is provided through CJSF Campus and
Community Radio).
* The candidate should have a demonstrated ability to complete work
accurately and thoroughly in a timely manner.
Work Term:
* This Young Canada Works Summer Student position will begin May 15th,
2010 to August 28th, 2010. This position is supported by Young Canada Works
in Heritage Institutions and is subject to confirmation of funding.
