Executive Director

The Maritime Museum of British Columbia is the repository of Western
Canada's largest collection of marine artifacts. For 55 years it has played
an important role as an educational centre and as an archive of maritime
related materials. It is located in Victoria B.C., a city with an
extensive naval and maritime tradition and an ideal place to live boasting
Canada's mildest climate, wonderful gardens and an engaged and knowledgeable
population. The museum wants a dynamic Executive Director to come on board
by mid August to work collaboratively with its Board of Directors and lead
the staff to ensure that the Museum will endure and to grow in the years
ahead.

Responsibilities:

The Executive Director will be responsible for charting the Museum's
strategic direction consistent with its overall vision and for managing its
day to day operations. This person will develop short and long term
operational plans and, most importantly, will seek to ensure its financial
viability. The successful candidate will work with staff on projects, will
develop and monitor policies and procedures on behalf of the organization
and will perform other duties assigned by the Board of Directors.

The Executive Director will work closely with committees of the Board to
ensure that the organization is furthering its mission and operating in
accordance with its strategic plan.

The Executive Director will work with the Board in identifying strategic
partners and in establishing mutually beneficial relationships.

Profile:

The Board of Directors is looking for a dynamic professional with a strong
business background: a leader with an entrepreneurial spirit capable of
directing the organization in such a way as to achieve its short and long
term aims: a responsible manager sensitive to the effective use of the
resources of the organization and the management and motivation of its staff
and volunteers. Experience in the cultural field is an asset but not
mandatory.

Qualifications:

The ideal candidate should have a minimum of five years management
experience and a Post Secondary degree or its equivalent. An MBA is
preferred but not required.
