Maritime Museum of BC welcomes a new Executive Director

November 3, 2010

The Maritime Museum of BC welcomes a new Executive Director. Martyn Clark, noted author and businessman, has come aboard to replace previous Executive Director, Kevin Carlé, who regretfully had to step down due to medical reasons.

Martyn Clark brings with him, much experience within the maritime and marine arena. For several years he was Transport Canada's sole consultant examiner for sailing ship endorsements and is past master of the schooners Robertson 11, Pacific Swift and the American privateer-replica Lynx among others.

Clark is also a Transport Canada Certified Master and has been involved at the management level in the charitable, maritime sector since 1981. He is the co-founder of the Canadian Sail Training Association, past director of the American Sail Training Association and former Executive Director of S.A.L.T.S. (Sail and Life Training Society).

Additionally, Clark is the author of Seamanship Under Sail and numerous travel and nautical articles published in North America, the U.K. and Australia.

As well as being an accomplished author, Clark is also a successful businessman whose enterprises include Cove Yachts Ltd, Clark MacKeown Yachts, and the River Boatshop, located in Oona River, Porcher Island, BC.

Clark is also responsible for spearheading the fundraising and construction/restoration of several large vessels, including Nyland (Norwegian schooner, Isle of Wight), Robertson 11 (Banks schooner, Victoria), Spirit of Chemainus (brigantine, Chemanius) Pacific Swift (topsail schooner, Expo 86, Vancouver) and Pacific Grace (Banks schooner replica, Victoria).

The Maritime Museum looks forward to the future with Martyn Clark at the helm and would like to thank Kevin Carlé for his commitment, dedication and skill he brought to the Maritime Museum and wishes him a speedy recovery.
