Burnaby Art Gallery Presents Art in the Librairies:
Selected Works from Victoria's Ground Zero Printmakers
and
Linocuts by Avis Rasmussen featuring Take Five Coast to Coast
(BURNABY, BC) - The Burnaby Art Gallery is pleased to present Selected Works from Victoria's Ground Zero Printmakers - an exhibition of works by Victoria based printmaking cooperative Ground Zero Printmakers. For this exhibition, each of the participating members were asked to submit work in any print media, resulting in a rich assortment of images utilizing a myriad of printmaking techniques. Founded in 1989, and led by Alain Costaz and Victoria Edgarr, Ground Zero is a broad based group of individuals who are interested in the medium of printmaking within the geographic region. They may be practising printmakers, novices wanting to learn printmaking techniques or individuals who appreciate the art of prints. Workshops and open studios are held regularly at the group's studio in Victoria's Chinatown.
More information may be found on the Ground Zero Printmakers' website: groundzeroprint.com<http://www.groundzeroprint.com/>

Concurrently, the Burnaby Art Gallery is presenting Linocuts by Avis Rasmussen featuring Take Five Coast to Coast - an exhibition of linocuts and reduction linocuts by Victoria artist Avis Rasmussen. For this exhibition, Avis has reworked a number of the illustrations originally made for her self-published 2002 chapbook Take Five Coast to Coast which chronicles Avis' trip across Canada with her five children in a camper van in the summer of 1977. A new edition of the book is now planned with the linocuts that make up most of this exhibition replacing the original pen and ink illustrations. Avis is also a member of Victoria's Ground Zero Printmakers and a long time supporter of the Burnaby Art Gallery. Additional work by Avis Rasmussen may be viewed in the Burnaby Art Gallery's Art Rental and Sales gallery.

The Burnaby Art Gallery provides access to and interpretation of contemporary visual art in alternative venues throughout the City of Burnaby. Themed exhibitions created from the permanent collection and emerging artists' works comprise the Burnaby public library exhibit program. The McGill and Bob Prittie libraries are the main branches where exhibitions occur. Exhibitions are traditionally between 35 and 60 days in length and reference topical subjects within the art world and media related news and information. All exhibits are curated and organized by the Burnaby Art Gallery.
The Burnaby Art Gallery began as an association in 1967 collecting and presenting contemporary art and the City of Burnaby assumed management in 1998. Dedicated to presenting a historical and contemporary art program by local, regional, national and international artists, the Burnaby Art Gallery also facilitates the development of emerging artists. It provides a diverse art educational program a long with acquiring culturally significant works on paper; and caring for and managing the City of Burnaby Permanent Art Collection. Upcoming exhibitions and programming can be viewed at burnabyartgallery.ca
