Thank you Chris, I look forward to continuing the discussion and hearing the
different viewpoints out there. Being new to the BCMA community, I am
curious about the background associated with art gallery representation.

Subject: [BCMA] Feeling philosophical...

Hello all-

It was fantastic to get together with so many of you at conference last
week/end. A huge thank you to Debbie Trueman and her staff and volunteers)
at the Nanaimo Museum for hosting us. Also, Caroline Posynick and her
program committee did an amazing job putting together an engaging and
well-organized program.

One thing that stuck with me on the ferry ride home was the discussion at
the end of the AGM where we were discussing the underrepresentation of art
galleries in the BCMA and its activities. I think that's a discussion that
needs to continue and perhaps this is an appropriate place to do that.
Perhaps I can lead off by asking a question:

As a museum community, do we consider ourselves primarily a community of
shared practice or a community of shared values? What are those practices
(and associated expertise)? What are those values?

Cheers.
