All Aboard the Christmas Express!
Cowichan Its full steam ahead for the arrival of the Christmas Express at
the BC Forest Discovery Centre on Friday, December 3rd. Visitors will ride
behind Samson, the museums 1910 steam train, through festive light displays
and exhibits throughout the 100-acre site. This event has grown into a
Christmas tradition on Vancouver Island, says Vicki Holman, Manager of the
museum. Due to popular demand we will be open for the first time between
Christmas and New Years, from December 26 to 31.
The event is an important annual fundraiser for the BC Forest Discovery
Centre, which is a registered charity. We rely on special events like
Christmas to help us raise funds to run the museum, says Holman. The
Christmas Express is a great opportunity for the community to support us and
have a fun family experience at the same time. Last year, nearly 11,000
visitors rode the Christmas Express.
There are many ways for members of the community to get involved with the
Christmas Express. Individuals, families, and organizations are needed to
volunteer for decorating, event activities, and the education program.
Local businesses can support the event and the museum at the same time
through sponsorship or company light displays, says Holman. It takes the
whole community to make this event successful. Please contact the museum
at (250) 715-1113 or visit www.discoveryforest.com for more information.
The Christmas Express runs from 4:00 pm 9:00 pm on Fridays, Saturdays and
Sundays December 3 12, Friday to Thursday December 17-23, and Sunday to
Thursday December 26-30.
