Hello all
In addition to sitting on the BCMA Provincial Council, I'm also a proud
member of Interpretation Canada (IC)'s National Executive; I've long felt
that engaging public and educational programming is a key part of what we do
as museums.
Heres an upcoming Pro-D opportunity from IC that many of you might be
interested in. (And yes, I'm presenting at it, but don't let that dissuade
you...)
If you have any questions about IC or this conference, please contact me at
chris at vancouverpolicemuseum.ca

Interpretation Canada Online Conference

Today's member rate: CDN $ 113.46
Non-member rate: CDN $ 175.35

We understand how costly and rare professional development opportunities are
for interpreters and other informal education professionals. No matter how
remote your museum, park, or site, this new online conference format will
connect you to a thriving community of practice with no travel. (Our first
online conference, in the spring, was a big success with participants from
every corner of the country as well as from overseas). Access to emerging
approaches and techniques can contribute so much to your organizations
interpretation and education programs. This particular conference theme will
help you think more strategically about which audiences to reach out to, and
how to tailor your programs to them for meaningful visitor experiences.
Speakers:
Chris Mathieson (Vancouver Police Museum) - Building New Audiences: Big
Lessons From a Little Museum
Dr. John Falk (professor, University of Oregon) - Keynote Address:
Understanding the Visitor Experience
Brad Tucker (Dinosaur Provincial Park) - Carving the Niche: The Benefits
of Designing Programs from an Experiential Perspective
Interpretation Canadas 2010 AGM (Annual General Meeting)
Stephanie Weaver (experienceology blog, author) - Forgotten Spaces and
Your Visitor Experience: Details Matter
Nicole Deufel (from Wales, UK) - From Stakeholder to Audience
Stéphane Bruneau (Parks Canada) - social marketing and outreach education
(title TBA)
Conference Details:
Six live (interactive) hour-long online sessions, as well as our AGM.
Registration will also give you continued access to the recorded sessions
for six months. So if your time zone or daily work prevents you from
attending all of the sessions, you won't miss out.
Get inspired, get updated, and get together - online!
* Please help to spread the word - and apologies in advance for any
cross-postings :-)
A little more about us: IC is a not-for-profit association of contributing
members with one staff person (me). Canadian interpreters first gathered in
1973 to establish the organization that would become IC. We keep membership
costs low so all interpreters can belong if they choose to join. This annual
conference is only one of our wonderful member programs. Check out the
growing list of programs, online resources, entry forms and more at our
website as we continue to boost our accessibility.
