VERN SHEWCHUK
A spirited and enthusiastic drummer, Vern Shewchuk has devoted his life to music since he was a young boy. Originally from Manitoba, he relocated to Vancouver at 15. Vern holds a Bachelor of Music Degree in percussion from UBC where he studied music theory and performance on tympani, vibes, marimba, and hand-drums while continually developing his skills on the drum set. During his career Vern has played in marching bands, drum corps, percussion ensembles, symphony orchestras, and various types of bands ranging from rock/ jazz/ blues/ r&b/country and latin to large show bands. Over the years his experiences have taken him from concert halls and the club circuit, to performances on major international cruise lines. He has played small venues as well as 60 thousand seat stadiums.

DAVIDA KIDD
Davida Kidd was born in Edmonton, Alberta Canada and now resides in Burnaby, B.C. Davida Kidd has been studying hand-drumming with Vern over the summer through the Mozart School of Music in Burnaby. Seeing how talented and versatile he was, as well as devoted to meeting any challenge presented to him, she decided to invite him to facilitate this evening of improvisation.

Kidd received her BFA and MVA in Print Media from the University of Alberta, and her areas of specialization are: Print Media, Photography, Digital Imaging, and Installation. She uses painting, drawing and collage to create environments that are subsequently photographed with a medium-format camera and combined with elaborate staging followed by Photoshop editing. Kidd is currently an instructor in the Department of Visual Arts at the University College of the Fraser Valley in Abbotsford, B.C. She was awarded the prestigious Grand Prix at the International Print Triennial in Poland in 2003.
