FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
GULF OF GEORGIA CANNERY GOES TO YEAR-ROUND OPENING
Having tested the waters with an extended season for the 2010 Winter Games, the Gulf of Georgia Cannery National Historic Site will move to year-round operation beginning immediately.
“The attendance we saw during the winter months of early 2010 has shown there is a demand for more visitor experiences in Steveston” said Gulf of Georgia Cannery Society Executive Director Marie Fenwick. “The Cannery adds to the world class tourism product available in Metro Vancouver on a year round basis”. The Cannery offers guided tours and school programs throughout the Fall and Winter, as well as special events such as Halloween tours and an indoor version of the popular Steveston Farmers and Artisans Market.
The Cannery, previously only open from May to October, will now be open Daily from 10 am to 5 pm.
The Gulf of Georgia Cannery National Historic Site of Canada is operated by the non-profit Gulf of Georgia Cannery Society, on behalf of Parks Canada. For more information call 604.664.9009, visit www.gulfofgeorgiacannery.com or www.parkscanada.gc.ca/georgiacannery

About the Gulf of Georgia Cannery: Built in 1894 it was the largest building of its kind in British Columbia at the time. It largely ceased canning in the 1930s, but remained active as a net loft, fish depot and later as a herring reduction plant. Key exhibits include a functioning salmon canning line that presents both the social and technological history of the canning industry, a herring reduction plant and a flexible exhibit space.
