The Bulkley Valley Museum, Smithers, B.C., has an immediate opening for an
Ethnobotany and Traditional Resource Curator. The successful candidate will
be responsible for gathering and cataloguing materials for the Museum's
First Nations collections and for a new ethnobotany collection to be
established at the Bulkley Valley Museum. This research will place
particular emphasis on the role of women in ethnobotany, fisheries and
traditional resource management as well as on the future development of an
ethnobotanical garden on the Museum grounds.
Qualifications:
Graduate of a post secondary program of relevant studies, full knowledge of
standard accessioning procedures for administering and accumulating
artifacts and archives. Exceptional organizational, problem solving and
presentation skills. Proven ability to work well in a team situation.
Excellent computer skills.
Salary: $12/hr - 35hrs per week
Length of Employment: 3 months with possibility of an extension

Start Date: October 15, 2010
This position is specifically being offered to First Nations applicants
through the Youth Eco Internship Program (YEIP) at YWCA Canada, with funding
from the Government of Canada's Economic Action Plan. Eligible candidates
must be 15-30, unemployed and Canadian citizens or permanent residents in
order to apply for this position.
The YEIP also encourages applicants from visible minority, immigrant,
refugee and traditionally marginalized communities. Furthermore, the program
is committed to providing employment accommodation supports for youth with
disabilities where reasonably possible.
